Is there anything more beautiful than camping in June?

As kids, our annual summer vacation typically involved packing up the station wagon and driving out to New Hampshire or Vermont or the Berkshires for a camping trip. This year, we decided to initiate a sibling camping trip (annual, dare I say?) in Acadia National Park in Maine. A seven hour ride crammed in a car with three siblings, ages 28 to 14......and I'm happy to say that they're three of my favorite people to ever be crammed in a car with. Yes tensions eventually ran high and after after hour two on the ride home we were all stifling our desires to scream (I don't think it was just me...) but truly -- I know I'm blessed to have such great people for my people.

Acadia is absolutely gorgeous. The evergreen beach was our favorite and we spent all our afternoons hanging out there. We woke up to see the sun rise on Cadillac Mountain (the highest easternmost point in the country, the first place to see the sun) not once, but twice -- but only made it there once. We woke up at 4am, shuffling to the car in the dark in pajamas -- and got lost, thereby missing the sunrise. We instead stopped off at some cliffs to watch the sky grow pink, and ended up going back to bed not long after. The next day we made it though, up even earlier at 3:30am with map in hand, and sat atop cold and windy Cadillac Mountain as we watched the neon pink sun rise. It was incredibly beautiful and one of my favorite moments.

My summer is being strung together by a series of quick getaways -- Minnesota was first, then Block Island, then Maine. Next it's onto Vermont and then North Carolina -- hopefully closing out with a West Coast trip at the end :)

Summer, I kinda dig you.
